Race Weekend 10/4/13-10/6/13

Post by Matthew on 10/1/2013, 4:40 pm

It's never too early to start talking and thinking about a race, so I've decided to start early this week!!!  I can't wait for this weekend!!!  We're heading down south to yet ANOTHER track that we know our #23 Chevrolet is REALLY fast at!!!  You may have noticed that I didn't say #23 Goodyear Chevrolet.  Well, that's because we've got a different scheme on the car for this weekend.  In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we've got the Think Pink Ribbon on our hood!!!  Hopefully we'll be able to put the car into victory lane in our endless quest of "Chasing the Cure"!!!  I'm looking really forward to this weekend.  Aside from being a little loose when we last came here, the car was great all day, and we even managed to pull off a runner-up finish!!!  I love this racetrack... it's BAD FAST!!!  We'll probably be running 3-wide most of the day down there.  I've been trying to put some thought into which line I'll be running.  The track is really wide, so it's a long way to that outside wall from the bottom apron.  The high lines a lot safer if you were to lose it, but it's not as fast of a line.  Decision, decision!!!  I can either run the fast-low line, or the safe-high line.  I don't really think there's any question of where I'll be most of the day... I'm trying to WIN races!!!  This track's blood-thirsty, and I can guarantee that this weekend's race is going to be FAR from boring.

We're working on qualifying trim right now, and we're struggling with it a bit. We've got the car back in the garage area and we figured we might try a more aggressive set up by upping the bump and lowing spring and rebound.

Just took the car out for a few mock qualifying runs to test out the new setup.  I absolutely, without a doubt, HATED the setup.  The car was so rough, and with the back-slanted ride height, I felt like I was in a spaceship or something for the whole run.  But I guess I'm gonna have to just get used to it... for qualifying at least.  We increase our average speed by 6.85 mph with this new setup!!!  It's so hard to drive, but if it's going to give us a chance of starting on the pole, I'll deal with it.  Track position doesn't really matter at this track since there's so much passing room, and you can drift from first to last and back again within about 10 laps, but I'd really love to be the youngest driver to win from the pole.  I figure we've been doing so well with breaking all the other records, why not keep it up?!  But seriously, it's not about winning... it's about coming out here every weekend and having a great time doing what I love.  I just thank God for bringing this fantastic sport into my life!!!

Great mock qualifying run in the final practice... top of the charts!!!  Hopefully we'll be just as fast, if not faster in qualifying!!!  We're not getting as much rear driver as we'd like, especially off of two, but hopefully it won't hurt our qualifying time too bad.

I don't think I've ever been this excited after qualifying!!! It looks like the new setups and adjustments we made really paid off... this weekend, the #23 Think Pink Chevrolet will be starting on the pole for the first time at this track!!!

YEAH BABY!!!  That's win number 5 for the season!!!  What an incredible day... started on the pole and won!!!  By the way, that also means that I just broke the record for the youngest driver to win from the pole!!!  The really amazing part is that we did it on a cracked axle!!!  Around 30 to go, I started to get a vibration in the front, which we at first thought was just a loose lug nut... it wasn't until we could check the car out after the race that we realized we had sustained a crack from rubbing the apron at the bottom.  Somehow the thing didn't fully break, and we were able to hang on for the win!!!

I'd like to thank the sponsors:
- Think Pink
- Goodyear
- Coca-Cola
- 5-Hour Energy
- Comp Cams
- Auto Meter
- Mechanix Wear
- Lincoln Welders

Everyone who supports us and makes what we do out here possible:
- GOD***
- Ray
- Ty
- Daryl
- Everyone at ERS Racing
- My Mom
- Rachel
- The BCG

And all the fans who give us so much support every week!!!

I'd like to dedicate this win to Nick Oresko, the oldest Medal of Honor winner, who tragically passed away during surgery on Friday night at the age of 96.

And remember, October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month... so everyone: THINK PINK!!!
